My Crop Over .... Is Over

Oye,
Its been along time, I know, I know - I haven't been posting my updates like I used too.
My life and my role in entertainment has evolved primarily to include social media marketing among other things I am still getting a grasp on to be honest.
What I do know, is that Crop Over was very different for me this year and extremely enlightening. I had the privilege of developing the social media strategy for one of the more well known brands in Barbados - Brewster's Road Crew.

Now for those of you who don't know the Brewster's Road Crew throws one of the hottest party series in Crop Over and are the creators of the first ever 24 hour soca parties.
With a total of 13 parties every friday night the Crop Over season, it was demanding to say the least.
It really opened my perspective as to how social media can and should be used in the Caribbean context.

On the media front I did some work with the online entertainment tv station Caribfyah.com over the season primarily covering BRC events, but alsop covering grand kadooment and Cohobblopot. Yes, Yes I it was our outing a Cohobblopot that gave birth to the interview with Admiral Nelson sharing he views on the incident with Admiral Nelson.

Of course still working behind the scenes with BoomTribe getting photos online and doing some other things with the team in and around BoomTribe.
There were 2 summer promotions and lots of behind the scenes stuff you will learn about later!

Oh and what is a soca festival without a good J'ouvert? That's why I jumped on Board with the Island Fusion Crew to help them get their inaugural J'ouvert experience together.
Crop Over 2010 was filled with lots of new things, new people getting into the business, investing time and energy into making Crop Over special.


I always thought that since the artiste strike a few years ago, it would take some time before the festival really starts to grow again. My $0.02 is after this year we are going to see lots more interesting things around the festival and I hope lots more forward thinking initiatives!

Wow,

Its been a while since I posted on this Blog right here. I have got to do some cobweb cleaning and get it ready for posting again.

Now I have been busy exploring and learning some new stuff with Social Media Marketing and entrepreneurship.

Its been an exciting couple of months that took me off the frontline of Caribbean Entertainment. Just writing this post to say I am still around and still experiencing our very special culture.

Interesting way to get your Crop Over 2010 going tomorrow night in fine style at the C'est La Vie. Dj Private Ryan from the ever popular TT Carnival Band "Tribe" will be in the Lion Castle Club House spinning some tunes along with local djs Ras and Chasey, Ignition sounds n more. 

Its 5.00 pm til midnight. It sounds like a dress up, dress up thing $175 Admission. 

Apparently too they really pushing a French Carnival kind theme with girls in Carnival Costumes, Steel Pan, some djs and MIMES !!!  I really wondering if they can bring that European vibe here. 

Anyways its sounding a little interesting, I wonder if I can mime myself! lol.

Barbados Reggae Festival 2010 Line Up Announced!

Reggae On The Hill - Etana and I - After I Interviewed her for BoomTribe.com



The Barbados Reggae Festival 2010 has now come to an end with a star studded line up. Unfortunately I cant really tell u much about the performances because I was busy backstage getting interviews for BoomTribe.com. Based on the performances I did see, the Jamaican Michael Jackson performing during Mr Vegas set at Reggae Beach Party and Konshens coming on as a surprise guest on Tarrus Riley's to perform their smash hit "Good Girl Gone Bad" were 2 moments that definitely stood out.

Interview wise, I have to say that all the artiste were very approachable and seemed to have fun in the interviews. There were lots of interesting moments in the interviews but for me one thing that stuck with me is a comment that Mr. Vegas made when we asked him about his consistency in being one of the top acts in Reggae/Dancehall Music.
His answer is a big lesson for us all and its something I try to practice in my dealings. Basically he said that he was patient, he waited for his turn, for his opportunity. He didn't try to pull down anyone or anything like that to get where he is today and he believes that is one of the key reasons he is able to remain at the top of the game.
I thought that was all good advice for us all. Stay patient and keep preparing. I think that is the same advice that Eminem would share as he says in his smash hit "Lose Yourself". Yeah its one of my favourite tracks.

Must make mention of FAS Entertainment who are the producers of the festival. I liked that the approach to the festival every year raises the bar and improves on the previous year. You have been able to create a world class product and keep moving forward. I think adding some interesting flavor for the Bajan reggae artiste could make the festival more unique and tie it to the big Barbados brand. Just a thought.

Come Together - Benefit Concert For Smokey Burke and George Jones

Its been a little while since you last heard from me, at least via this Entertainment blog. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this Benefit concert for 2 Barbadian Musicians Smokey Burke and George Jones of "Square One"

Here is a message I received from John Roett



Two of our well known Barbadian musicians, Smokey Burke, and George Jones of the band “Square One” have been diagnosed with cancer. The entertainment industry has come together to assist our friends in what is a very difficult time for them both.





We will be putting on a spectacular show on Saturday April 17th at The Plantation, which has been kindly given to us by Mr. Tony Hoyos and Mr. Colin Brewer to host this event.





Artistes who have willingly promised of their time to perform, include, in alphabetical order: Alison Hinds, Biggie Irie, Blood, Edwin Yearwood, Gabby, Lil Rick, Mikey, Mr. Dale, Natahlee, Peter Ram, Red Plastic Bag, Rupee, and TC, backed by an all star band with Nicholas Brancker, John Roett, Ian Alleyne, Mikey Hulsmeier, a 5 piece horn section, and background vocals. The Boogie Knights Band will also make a special appearance. Many corporate organizations have also pledged their support for these two artistes who have given so much to the entertainment industry in Barbados over the years.
